RURAL-project

Everybody is entitled to health and care services in the municipality in which they are staying. How can the municipalities in Den Grønne Dalen (the Green Valley) organise healthcare so that in the future too they can deliver good services to the continuously growing number of recreational visitors, tourists and visitors? How do they ensure adequate emergency preparedness, at the coast and in the mountains, for searches and transport off the beaten track. How can they ensure adequate ambulance facilities for locals and visitors?

Den Grønne Dalen is an inter-municipal, inter-county collaboration between Buskerud and Vestfold, and between the six municipalities along the Numedal river; Nore and Uvdal, Rollag, Flesberg, Kongsberg, Lardal and Larvik. The six municipalities form an area of natural beauty linked together by a common valley and a common waterway. The RURAL project is part of the EU International Inter-regional projects. Further information about the project can be found below and in the menu on the right.

The EU has allocated substantial amounts to finance international cooperation projects. These projects include regional and municipal collaboration projects. They are called Inter-regional projects. Because of the EEA agreement, Norwegian authorities can also participate.

Inter-regional
North Sea Rural

North Sea RURAL is another of these Inter-regional projects. The project brings together six partners/participants from various geographical areas around the North Sea with the purpose of exchanging experiences and ideas on how to promote good development of rural areas and outlying districts. The six partners are: Norfolk (UK), Fryslän (NL), Wesermarsch (G), Viborg (DK), Västra Gøtaland Region (S) and the BTV region (N). The project is led from Viborg.

These six partners have instigated 15 subprojects that will contribute to achieving the project goals. The 15 subprojects relate to the following three main topics, which are considered important factors in stimulating robust development in the districts: Social services, Transport/communications and Business economic development, The project period is from 2004-2007.
